story boards

1. close up shot of barbies face to introduce character. quick cuts into next shot.
2. E4 logo so that the audience are aware of what the clip is for/about. another quick cut onto the next shot
3. a long shot of the barbie, slowly being covered in paint (this shot continues to be the same until she is completely covered in the paint) cuts onto the next shot.
4. mid shot of barbie completely covered
5. the E4 logos start to appear all over the barbie
6. the logos continue to move around the screen and cover her body

4. a huge E4 logo covers the barbies face and the rest of the screen. the shot cuts into the next.
5. the shot spins around the screen to show the kind of odd/weird style of E4
6. the scene cuts back to previous shots where the barbie was covered in paint and one where she was brand new. the scenes flick between eachother for 3 seconds and cut to the end scene
7. the last shot is of the barbie completely covered in the E4 logo, perfectly advertising the channel.

MUSIC : clip from the website, i chose the hardcore 3 as it fitted in with the style i have chosen.

further research on the mockery of Barbie

Youtube is often used to make a mockery of famous people (or objects in this example) with paradodies and covers of their songs done badly. People use Youtube to express how they feel about about celebrities.
This is an 'episode of barbie and ken' it is a perfect example of how Barbie is now ridiculed, and is not taken as seriously as she was a few years ago.

This video spread on youtube like wildfire, the pure desperation of this person caught everyone attention. It is another perfect example of the uses of Youtube.

Influence from Barbie...

E4 stings have a character that helps to advertise E4, rather than just using the logo and the programmes aired to advertise the channel. The kind of people that watch E4 aren't the type of people to have barbies.. they're most likely to have the alternative (cheaper, less pretty but in my opinion much 'cooler', brunette) doll Sindy. Original blonde haired, blue eyed, Barbie is a huge advertising tool for the whole brand now, and that is spread all over the world now. There are so many different types of barbies it is unbelievable. This is why I have chosen a cheaper version of her to create my E4 sting.

so I thought.. why not make a mockery of Barbie?

udderbelly festival inspiration

this is the festival that E4 run, it's an indi festival perfect for anyone that watches e4. they take their individual style and can virtually turn it into anything. Being a viewer of e4 I've known about underbelly for a long time, and have always found the cow a good character to represent e4. This helped to inspire me when looking at ideas for an Esting. I thought about funny looking animals like sheep and turtles that would make interesting e4 characters just as this cow has :)

Although this character is very childish, E4 is a channel aimed at young adults. I guess the characters used by E4 are there to make the viewers feel young.

why stop motion?

these are clips from a current entry for the E4 stings competition. I found it most inspiring because I think that the way the E4 logo was such a huge part of the stop motion worked incredibly well. It advertised the channel  and kept the audience captivated by giving the E4 logo a character.

ideas

I thought about creating characters for the e4 logo. this particular idea is good vs evil. I also thought about doing men vs women. However this would include a good knowledge of animation, unless I was to create the e4 logo from plastercine and do a stop motion.

this idea is related to the royal wedding, and english pride. although e4 shows a lot of american shows it's very proud to be one of the channels that shows some of the top english shows like 'skins' and 'misfits'

a travelling e4 logo? could there be anything more alternative... yess! an E4 on wheels!!
for this idea, i would also have to have a keen interest and talent in animation.. but I don't. I also don't think there would be that much I could do with this one.. other than going through the different locations of E4 viewers.

this was taken from inspiration from the 'underbelly festival' that e4 have created. This is a turtle, another interesting animal like the cow they used.

this is my final, and most realistic idea. I think I will be able to create this one, using stop motion and lots of cut outs of the e4 logo!
this idea is all about making a mockery of the barbie doll. covering her in paint and splattering the e4 logo all over her.. who wouldn't laugh!?

E4 audience research

The "E" stands for entertainment, and the channel is mainly aimed at the age group of 15- 35. Programming includes US imports such as friends, veronica mars, desperate housewives, glee, how i met your mother, and scrubs. As well as british shows such as misfits, skins and shameless.

When people flick over onto E4 they expect to be made to laugh, and I hope that my Esting can do this :)

Existing Products

I like the purple monster idea, and think that the most successful E4 stings have a character in that the audience can relate to. The simplicity of the character is typical of E4, and perfect for the audience. A lot of the ashows that are aired on E4 are very comedic, even ones with a serious undertone always have a few jokes. So this character is perfect for an E4Sting.

this was one of the prize winning stings, it works well because of all of the detail it included, and the weird, oddness of the animation that links to the kind of label/rep that E4 have earned for themselves.

this was my favourite Esting from all of the hundreds and thousands of entries. I prefer the stop motion animation as I think that it enables someone with very little experience in animation to actually have a chance at winning this competition. It inspired me the most because it was very professional, and had a great plot with it.This one worked well because of the huge emphasis on the the E4 logo, with it moving around the screne the attention was all on the logo, portraying the whole point of an E sting.

Brief

Guess what peoples, we’re doing that there E STINGS competition again – and as ever we want you to chuck us your funnest, funniest, weirdyest, mischievous-est, cool-est, dumbest, cleverest, randomest, most nonsensical-est telly stuff that you got.
We want you to take our logo and create an original brand sting that smacks of E4 attitude and can be played out on our E4 telly-channel – and we’re even giving out prizes for our favourites.
It can be live action, it can be animated, it can be 2D, 3D, 4D. It can be hi-fi, lo-fi, big-budget or no-budget. Simply download the E4 logo and a soundbed your choice and get going. The only rules we are cruelly forcing upon you are thusly –
  1. (a) We can't show anything explicit or violent in the daytime, but we might be able to after the watershed as long as it’s broadcastable. So - within reason - your idea can be quite naughty / irreverent / provocative etc. Use your common sense though, anything too grim or sexually explicit won't get shown at all.

  2. (b) It HAS to be EXACTLY 10 seconds long. If it’s not 10 seconds long IT WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED BY THE JUDGES. Sorry, but we’re feeling a bit strict this year. To make things easier we’re providing you with a choice of 10 second audio beds which you are welcome to use in your E Sting (but feel free to use something of your own if you prefer!)

  3. (c) It HAS to have the E4 logo in it... But you probably knew that. (Preferably integrated into the idea rather than simply slapped on top of your piece at the end).
